About Polyga

Polyga is a 3D scanning company based in Vancouver, Canada, that develops both scanning hardware and software, with customers across six continents — in reverse engineering, metrology, cultural preservation, healthcare, entertainment, defense and aerospace. In 2024 the company launched PointKit Scan, a next-generation application built to replace FlexScan3D and make professional 3D capture easy for users of every skill level.

The Challenge

A scanning application lives or dies on its mesh-processing core. PointKit Scan needed to align thousands of frames in minutes, then clean, simplify, decimate and remesh the data reliably and fast. Building that geometry engine from scratch would have pulled Polyga’s team away from its real differentiators — capture quality and user experience — into months of low-level algorithm work.

The Solution

Polyga partnered with MeshInspector and built PointKit Scan on top of MeshLib, a high-performance 3D mesh-processing SDK running up to 10x faster than comparable toolkits. Alongside the library, the MeshInspector team provided hands-on technical support throughout development. MeshLib supplied production-ready algorithms for the exact operations behind PointKit Scan’s editing and optimization workflows:

Mesh Repair: cleaning up holes, self-intersections and degenerate faces in raw scan data without manual rework.

Simplification & Decimation: reducing dense scans to lightweight, workable meshes while preserving the detail that matters.

Remeshing: rebuilding topology into uniform, high-quality surfaces ready for downstream use.

Point Cloud Processing: fast alignment and triangulation of the thousands of frames captured during scanning.

The Results

By building on a proven geometry core instead of reinventing it, Polyga accelerated PointKit Scan’s development and shipped new features faster and with less effort. The product reached market months sooner than it would have otherwise — with responsive, expert support from the MeshInspector team removing roadblocks along the way.

In Their Words

“We partnered with MeshInspector to use MeshLib to develop our new PointKit 3D scanning software. Working with them has really allowed us to accelerate the development of the software and come out with new features faster and easier. The MeshInspector team has been wonderful — they’ve provided amazing technical support, and we wouldn’t have been able to come to market as quickly as we have without their help.”

When we set out to develop our new PointKit scanning platform, we chose MeshInspector’s MeshLib as the foundation. That partnership let us accelerate development, ship new features faster, and get to market months sooner than we could have on our own. The MeshInspector team has been outstanding — quick answers, deep technical know-how, and genuine enthusiasm for our success. We simply wouldn’t be where we are today without their support.

MeshLib SDK helped us achieve faster and more accurate calculation results and outperformed any other Mesh Processing library that we evaluated. For us in digital dentistry, it was a game-changer. Mesh processing operations, such as inspecting and editing the mesh to create dental devices for the treatment plan, are crucial. MeshInspector support liberated our team from technical constraints so we concentrated on creating exactly what we wanted. I highly recommend incorporating the MeshLib into your software arsenal.

With MeshInspector MeshLib we were able to automate many of our workflow processes, thanks to its advanced, modern, and efficient dental and geometry oriented algorithms, covering many of our orthodontic-related tasks: CT and intraoral scan segmentation, voxel and Boolean operations, editing, aligning, visualization, inspection, and import/export of mesh objects. We use the versatile MeshInspector MeshLib API, both in production and R&D for fast prototyping and testing of our ideas.
